Josh Allen’s record against every NFL team | The TwinSpires Edge (2024)

*This article has since been updated to reflect Josh Allen's record against each NFL team as of Jan. 23, 2022.

In the pivotal third year of Josh Allen’s NFL career, the Buffalo Bills quarterback responded with his best season.

A 2020 NFL MVP candidate, Allen ranked fourth in the NFL in completion percentage (69.2%) and passer rating (107.2), while he was fifth in passing yards (4,544) and touchdown passes (37). His leap in production helped the Bills secure a 13-3 regular-season record, their first AFC East title in nearly three decades, and the No. 2 seed in the playoffs.

On Sunday, Allen confronted the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game and fell 38-24. A win would have landed Buffalo its first Super Bowl appearance since the 1993 season.

The former first-round draft pick out of Wyoming had only faced Patrick Mahomes one other time in his career. The result was a 26-17 Chiefs win in Week 6 of the 2020 regular season.

Following the outcome of Allen and Mahomes’ latest meeting, let’s look back on Allen’s budding career and examine his regular season and postseason records against every NFL team.

Josh Allen vs. the Arizona Cardinals

One of only three losses for Buffalo this season came in Week 10 at Arizona.

Allen struggled at times in the back-and-forth clash but nearly capped off a game-winning drive, after he connected with Stefon Diggs for a 21-yard touchdown pass with 34 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

With the Bills up, 30-26, it seemed a near certainty that Buffalo would march home a winner. Then, Allen watched from the sideline as the play of the year unfolded, when Kyler Murray chucked up a 43-yard pass to DeAndre Hopkins, who brought the ball down in the end zone for the win as time nearly expired.

Josh Allen vs. the Baltimore Ravens

Allen saw his first NFL action against Baltimore in Week 1 of the 2018 season.

His debut didn’t go so smoothly. Buffalo lost 47-3 — the franchise’s most lopsided defeat since a 56-10 loss to New England in 2007.

In that Week 1 trouncing, Allen stepped in for quarterback Nathan Peterman and completed six of his 15 passes for 74 yards. The following week, Allen got his first start, against the Chargers, but he didn't earn his first win until Week 3, against Minnesota.

Allen fell again to Baltimore and fellow draft class member, Lamar Jackson, 24-17, last season, but he got payback in the 2020 playoffs.

In the Divisional Round, Allen led Buffalo to a 17-3 victory, and completed 23 of his 37 passes for 206 yards and a score.

Josh Allen vs. the Green Bay Packers

Allen has only faced Green Bay and fellow 2020 MVP contender Aaron Rodgers once.

The meeting occurred at Lambeau Field, during Allen's rookie season, and resulted in a 22-0 blowout by Green Bay.

Allen failed to record a touchdown and was intercepted twice, while Rodgers completed 22 of his 40 passes for 298 yards, a touchdown, and one interception against Buffalo's defense.

If Patrick Mahomes plays Sunday, it would mark the 1st Conference Championship round where all 4 starting QBs entered that game winning their last 6 starts including the playoffs:

*Mahomes (11 straight)
*Josh Allen (8 straight)
*Aaron Rodgers (7 straight)
*Tom Brady (6 straight)

Josh Allen vs. the Houston Texans

The Houston Texans have been a sore spot in Allen's young career. In their first encounter, in 2018, Allen left the game late in the third quarter because of an elbow injury, which forced Peterman to run the offense.

With less than two minutes to play and the game tied 13-13, the backup threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown to hand Houston the win.

The next time out, Allen played all of regulation, plus extra minutes, in last season's Wild Card Round.

The game began favorably for Buffalo, as Allen caught a touchdown pass from John Brown on a trick play early and helped the Bills build a 16-0 lead midway through the third quarter.

Unfortunately, for Buffalo — which had not won a playoff game since 1995 — the team collapsed in the second half. Allen lost a fumble, was sacked three times for a loss of 37 yards, and played erratically as Houston mounted a comeback.

Allen finally came out on top of Houston on Oct. 3, 2021, when he led the Bills to a resounding 40-0 victory over the Texans that left zero doubt about who was the better team. The veteran QB threw for 248 yards and two touchdowns in the laughably lopsided win.

Josh Allen says the main lesson from the Houston wild card game last year was not to press. He said if he could change how things played out he would but he added he’s learned a lot because of the loss.

This season, Allen appeared to shake off his playoff jitters. He displayed composure under pressure in a close game against Indianapolis in the Wild Card Round and stepped up in a brutal, cold-weather battle against Baltimore.

Josh Allen vs. the Kansas City Chiefs

In his Week 6 meeting with Kansas City, Allen completed 14 of his 27 passes for 122 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. He also led Buffalo in rushing (42 yards) in the 26-17 home loss.

He again led Buffalo in rushing (88 yards) in his rematch with K.C. in the AFC Championship Game but struggled in the passing game. Allen went 28-of-48 for 287 yards, two scores, and tossed an interception in the 38-24 defeat.

Allen showed out in the 2022 Divisional Round against Kansas City, throwing for 329 yards and four touchdowns. Unfortunately it wasn't enough, as Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs prevailed in overtime, 42-36, in what will be remembered as one of the greatest quarterback duels in postseason history.

Josh Allen vs. the Miami Dolphins

Of the 26 NFL franchises Allen has played, he has experienced the most success against AFC East rival Miami.

In seven games, Allen has won all but his first, which came in Week 13 of his rookie season.

Allen's 6-1 record against the Dolphins is his best against any NFL team. He has collected his next-most wins (five) against the New York Jets.

Josh Allen vs. the New England Patriots

The only AFC East member Allen doesn't hold a winning record against is New England.

The Patriots beat Allen once in 2018, swept him in 2019, but lost to Buffalo both times in 2020 — New England's first season since 2001 without Tom Brady as the starting quarterback.

One of Allen's best games this season took place in Week 16 at New England. In a 38-9 romp, Allen completed 75% of his passes for 320 yards, four scores, and ran for another 35 yards.

Allen had the finest game of his professional career against the Patriots on Super Wild Card Weekend in 2022. The University of Wyoming product set a postseason franchise record with five touchdown passes and completed 21 of his 25 pass attempts for 308 yards in a lopsided 47-17 victory.

Josh Allen vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers

Of the teams Allen has competed against at least twice in his career, he is undefeated against two — the Broncos and the Steelers.

In his two meetings with Pittsburgh, he went head-to-head with Ben Roethlisberger once. Allen defeated "Big Ben" in Week 14 to give the Steelers their second loss of the season. That win is part of an eight-win streak that Buffalo built following its crushing loss to Arizona in Week 10.
