Oreo balls were one of my favorite treats to make growing up. They take an already delicious treat, Oreos, and make it even better! When I went vegan, I stopped making oreo balls for a long time, since every ingredient except the Oreos is traditionally not vegan. However, in this Oreo balls recipe, I will show you which ingredients to use to create the most delicious vegan Oreo balls. If you are not vegan, then you can use the exact same recipe and ratios and replace them with the non vegan versions of these ingredients to create some amazing treats to impress your friends!

What you will need to make this recipe

  • 1 box of Oreo cookies (14.3 oz/ 405 g): this is the standard box of Oreos in the Unites States but here is a link to show you a photo of a standard box for people that might live in different places and don't have these specific sized boxes. Fun fact that not a lot of people know: Oreos are actually vegan!
  • vegan cream cheese: traditionally, Oreo balls are made with cream cheese. To keep it dairy free, I used vegan cream cheese. Some brands that offer great dairy-free cream cheese options are: Kite Hill, Nature's Fynd, Daiya.
  • vegan white chocolate chips: vegan white chocolate is probably the trickiest ingredient in this recipe, but it is actually pretty easy to find nowadays. In this recipe, I used these ones by Nestle. I found mine at Walmart. Here are some other brands that have vegan white chocolate: Enjoy Life and Pascha. I have not tried them, but have read decent reviews.

Note: vegan white chocolate is one of the few ingredients that, in my opinion, can still be improved to better resemble delicious white chocolate like the ones that Ghiaradelli and Lindt make, but we've come a long way and these are great options!

How to make this oreo balls recipe

Add all of the Oreos to a food processor and pulse them until you get a fine powder.

Transfer the Oreos to a large bowl and add 6 tablespoon of vegan cream cheese. Use a fork (or even better- your hands) to combine the mixture.

Scoop out a small amount of the dough and roll into balls. I used a small cookie scoop to make sure all of mine turned out the same size.

Melt the chocolate chips in two separate bowls. I melted mine in the microwave by microwaving in 30 second increments, then stirring, and repeating until the chips are all melted.

Using a fork, dip half of the Oreo balls into the white chocolate and half into the regular chocolate. Then line the truffles on a baking sheet and refrigerate them until the chocolate hardens.

After all of the Oreo balls are fully coated in chocolate, transfer the remaining chocolate to a piping bag or ziplock baggie, snip off the end, and drizzle the rest of the chocolate on top of the truffles. I like drizzling them with the opposite color that I coated them with. (Make sure the first layer of chocolate has fully hardened first!)

Refrigerate the truffles one more time until the chocolate hardens & then enjoy!

This recipe makes 36 Oreo balls (if you make them small like mine- about 1 inch in diameter).

How to store the oreo balls?

I store mine in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They actually can last for quite a long time in there because most of the ingredients are shelf stable. They are good for at least 7 days in the fridge (but they will probably disappear long before because they are so yummy and fun to snack on!)
