FAQs

Digital TV Tuner and Recorder TVTR149B (4)

This Digital TV Tuner + Recorder has an Electronic Programming Guide (EPG) that can show TV station programming up to 7 days in advance. However, certain TV stations may only allow the EPG to show 1 day of programming. We have seen this conflict on several stations and assume this is due to new on demand programming changes

NOTE: The latest version TVTR149B (3050) only supports up to 1 day in advance. Older versions may support up to 7 days in advance. VID and EPG support will be mentioned in the user manual.

If I connect my TVTR149B via HDMI will it scan for channels?

HDMI connection will not allow for the tuner to scan for channels, it will only provide audio/visual connections. A TV cable connection is required for setup.

NOTE: HDMI, AV, and RCA connections are used for audio/visual connections.

What do I do if I am not able to locate any channels when scanning?

We do recommend antenna (not included) when scanning for channels. You can reach out topartsinfo@dpiinc.com if you need to purchase an antenna.

What USB size and format types can be used on the TVTR149B?

A USB drive is required to play recorded TV programs and must be inserted into the TVTR149B.

You can use USB sizes between 128MB and 500GB and both NTFS or FAT formats are supported.

NOTE: The TVTR149B will support AVI, MOV, JPEG, and MP3 file formats.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Abe3 from It is poor in design The product is slow. It has really bad user interface. Why not list the channels as they appear rather than numerically? The remote is really slow to react. The 7 day guide is really just 24 hours. False advertising? The manuals don't match the model number on the back. There is no recording instructions. 'Book' for record? really? Who was in the focus group?Who wrote the manual or do the design of the UI? IT could be a great product with a better design of the UI and more robust program guide instructions. A better remote that reacts faster and has better range. 4 feet is not a good range.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Roodle from Works ok as long as it works. These devices have very short life spans. I’ve never had one last longer than a year. They work ok for the price. Pausing and resuming can be glitchy. At times it has a picture issue. Goes all pixelated or freezes. I usually just record a few shows. I’m on my fifth or sixth so far. The shortest one lasted was about a month, took it back and got a replacement. Just got a new one after a year or so. After this one fails, and it will, I’m going to get different kind of device. Keep in mind these are sold under different names. The interface is all the same.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Murfdog808 from Stopped working within 7 months of purchase Unit worked well enough for six months. Then the unit just died. I tried e-mailing DPI GPX asking about warranty, but there was NO response to two e-mail addresses I tried. I called the number provided. A woman answered. Her heavy foreign accent made it next to impossible to understand what she was trying to say in English. I kept having to ask her to repeat and she kept asking me to repeat. Mercifully, the call was cut off. I mailed the request for warranty assistance to the St. Louis address. So I will see if that is answered. The only warranty info on unit manual stated to go to the GPX website for current info. I did that, searched the website and found nothing. Waiting to see what happens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by kirkbird84 from Works well for what I need I need a TV tuner that lets be add channels at a different antenna direction, as well as being able to record and rewind/fast forward while watching, all of which this does well. I mostly use it as a simple tuner, I also record shows (like daily Jeopardy) to watch when I come in later.I do find it locking up and rebooting from time to time, and I bought one that failed after 11 days, but I had an earlier version for several years. I'd love to buy something a little higher end, similar to Tablo or even TiVo, but they all fail to do what I want which is to control the process at a low level. Instead they try to do for me things I don't want to do.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Kenney G from Good Basic Tuner and Recorder I bought this box about a week ago. The first thing I noticed were the two AAA batteries that were included for the remote were dead. After fresh batteries, the remote worked as it should. It would be nice if the instruction manual was alittle more complete. It does not show how long you can record on different size thumb drives or if you can adjust the recording speed. With experimenting I found that it uses about 1 Gb of memory for every hour of recording at the factory reset speed. I must say the video quality is very good. Overall I am pleased with this recorder and would buy it again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by USB DRIVES FAILED from USB drive failed 10/1/20GPX FUBARBought this at @ half-price.Two problems:1) The supplied 128gb flash drive only worked for a day or so. Then the flash drive failed (not accessible from PC).I then used a known good drive and it also failed as just described above. 2) Also, the TVTR149B remote and the remote for TV it feeds must be using some of the same signals (i.e. both devices are triggered)?Called Kate @ customer support and she never contacted me with a promised email that details 'next steps' for me to follow to correct/return/etc. Looks like I'll have to settle on just having a quirky tuner, which I do like as it fits my need for a tunerP.S. Big Lots is out-of-stock of this clearance item.

Rated 1 out of 5 by JustMe123 from Unreliable and frustrating I bought the TVTR149 yesterday and thought it had promise. Unfortunately it often doesn't recognize my brand-new name-brand 128BG USB drive that I purchased to use with this product. I set the timer to record a show this morning (verified the date, time, etc) but when I got home the USB drive was empty. I did a test run last night and it worked OK, although the recording had some odd "skips" in places. The quality of the image was really good so I was willing to overlook the couple of skips in the recording. The unit is slow to respond to the commands from the remote, and the manual doesn't address several of the buttons on the remote. The concept of the TVTR149 is great, but the execution is poor. I thought maybe there might be a software update to fix things, but I don't see any on the website. Unfortunately this will be returned to the store.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Tonymo from The TVTR149b. is an excellent value... Basically the unit serves as digital tuner for VHF/UHF Digital TV tuner and a kind of converter for adapting older TV's computer monitors as well as all types of CRT devices into tv's...included is an HDMI output and comes pre<loaded with codecs to record hours of programming onto a mass storage device.mThe only drawback is a small, rather crowded looking and not-to-user-friendly remote control. Please develop one that is longer and is easier to see
